About Us
Understanding Our Commitment to Gender Equality
The South Western Region Gender Network (SWRGN) is a regional gender-focused network that was formed in December 2010 and officially registered in February 2011. The network was established by 10 Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), Faith Based Organisations (FBOs) and Community Based Organisations (CBOs) operating in the south western region of Zimbabwe specifically in Bulawayo, Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North, Midlands and Masvingo Provinces with interest and passion of advancing gender equality, women, girls, men and boys’ empowerment issues. It was established to fulfil a gap and a need of South Western region NGOs advancing gender issues of not having a local, representative and functional gender, women and girls focused network that identifies and responds to member organizations’ needs and constraints. The membership of the network consists of registered not for profit, organizations operating in the South Western region of Zimbabwe.

Pillar 1: Gender equality, women's and men's empowerment
SWRGN envisions a just and inclusive society where women, men, girls, and boys have equal opportunities to lead, participate in, and benefit from social, economic, and political development. This pillar reflects SWRGN’s commitment to challenging gender inequalities and fostering empowerment across all levels of its network and member organizations..
Pillar 2: Gender, Climate Change and Health
This strategic pillar recognizes the intersectionality of gender, health, and climate change, and prioritizes integrated approaches that address systemic inequalities exacerbated by both environmental and health-related challenges. Women, girls, and marginalized communities in Zimbabwe face disproportionate risks and vulnerabilities, demanding targeted interventions that are inclusive, responsive, and rooted in justice.
Pillar 3: Gender Justice and Empowerment
*This pillar focuses on dismantling systemic inequalities to ensure that all individuals, regardless of gender, enjoy equal access to social, economic, and political opportunities. By combining targeted empowerment with structural justice, it addresses the root causes of inequality through direct community action and institutional reform. Central to this approach is the total elimination of gender-based discrimination by challenging restrictive laws, policies, and harmful societal norms. Simultaneously, it drives economic inclusion through enhanced support for entrepreneurship, financial resources, and fair wages, while actively promoting equal representation in governance and decision-making roles.
Pillar 4: Research, Strategic Information and Knowledge Management
SWRGN aims to enhance its capacity for generating and utilizing data to inform impactful decision-making. This will be achieved by conducting research and establishing a Research Centre within SWRGN to foster innovation and evidence-based programming. The organisation will also increase innovation in the design and implementation of its programs. By December 2028, SWRGN will actively monitor progress, evaluate impact, and identify areas for improvement, ensuring accountability, learning, and knowledge dissemination.
